For organizations that continue to develop and enhance their UC infrastructures, which in turn supports the growing requirements of their customers and staff, selecting interoperable UC applications and services has become crucial to the success of the business. Organizations have four choices:
Choice 1: Do nothing. This has an attractive TCO argument as there are no capital and operational costs, but organizations that do nothing will rapidly fall behind their competitors
Choice 2: Buy everything from a single vendor. This might seem like a good strategy; however if a new technology comes to market that is not provisioned by the selected vendor, or if organizations merge (or indeed if the vendor get acquired) with companies with legacy environments, then the strategy is no longer viable.
Choice 3: Pay a systems integrator to do the integration or use a managed services provider (MSP). Depending on the environment, this could be a sensible option. However if an environment is highly dynamic, the SI will need to continually be back in to upgrade the integrated environment, which could get costly. For many organizations an MSP works well if mainstream vendors are selected, and not the most leading edge technology.
Choice 4: Select an ecosystem multi-vendor management system that has recognized this interoperability problem and solved the most immediate need.
VOSS provides solutions for this fourth category, in the absence of any serious alternatives.
