As new and inventive technology crowds the unified communications (UC) market, and no one vendor dominating across the spectrum, there is no doubt that interoperability is becoming a huge concern for enterprises and service providers alike. This is because without a common standard, organizations can’t guarantee that their latest investment in best of class UC applications will integrate into their existing infrastructure, let alone inter-work with each other.

Traditionally, IT teams would test a new UC product against its existing products; however this model is becoming unsustainable, simply due to the complexity and size of modern day VoIP/UC infrastructures and a lack of in-house expertise.

Outsourcing doesn’t necessarily solve the problem either, as service providers suffer from the same interoperability issues as the enterprise.
