The following stages make up a typical platform’s lifecycle:
- Day 0: The design phase
- Day 1: The build and deployment phase
- Day 2: The administration and operational phase
- Day 3: The ongoing upgrade and maintenance phase
Most VoIP and UC management tools available on the market today typically focus on administering only one specific area in the UC platform lifecycle. For example, there are many products that provide day-2 administration capabilities for the IP-PBX. Similarly, there are several companies that provide day-1 tools to deploy an IP-PBX.
A very small percentage of management platforms support both day-1 and day-2 capabilities. However, as far as we have been able to ascertain, VOSS is the only company that supports day-0 to day-3 capabilities; therefore the full UC&C platform lifecycle.
The main advantage of this is lower costs: the more of the UC&C platform lifecycle that you can automate and manage, the lower the total cost of ownership. If you are only able to manage one part of the lifecycle, then you are very unlikely to achieve a low total cost of ownership.
