Most APAC IT teams already have automation. A script here, a workflow there, something bolted onto the ITSM platform that someone built two years ago that everyone’s now afraid to touch. It works, until it doesn’t, and stitching it all together is where the real cost sits.

In episode 3 of Fireside Chat (see below), I sat down with our Chief Product Officer, Bill Dellara, to talk about a better model: automation fabric. This is not another point solution; it’s a connected set of capabilities that let automation scale consistently across the whole organization rather than living in silos.

Bill’s take: a mature automation fabric rests on four connected pillars:

An automation engine that orchestrates and executes repeatable actions

Monitoring that surfaces performance and issues as they happen

Analytics that turn usage, cost, and risk data into decisions

AI woven through the fabric, not bolted onto the side, driving prediction, recommendation, and further automation

The word that matters most here is ‘connected’

Individual tools solving individual problems don’t add up to a fabric. It’s when monitoring, analytics, automation, and AI talk to each other that the outcomes change (like a Teams call quality issue automatically getting traced to a firmware problem, remediated, and learned from, with no one needing to open a ticket).

We also get into the build-versus-buy question every IT leader in APAC is quietly wrestling with, particularly given a tight skills market and even tighter budgets. Bill’s view is refreshingly direct: general-purpose tools and AI can help you orchestrate broadly, but digital workplace automation is deep, messy, multi-vendor territory. Buying domain expertise means buying the scenarios, the maintenance, and the years of API churn someone else has already absorbed, so your UC team can stop fighting fires and start adding value.

The episode closes with a practical self-assessment: how mature is your automation engine, is your monitoring actually feeding your automation, does your analytics inform decisions or just produce reports, and is AI integrated into the heart of your fabric or sitting on the side? If any of those expose a gap, that’s exactly where the conversation should start.
